Film Screening: "The Fire Practitioners" and "Fire Tenders"

Thursday November 5th, 7-9 PM

This event is part of  the Olympic Peninsula Fire Ecology series, a 6 month exploration of the role of fire on the landscape around the Salish Sea - hosted by scientists, firefighters, ecologists, foresters and cultural burners, including site visits, film screenings, and hands on activities.

Join us for an evening screening of two short films about cultural fire and its resurgence in indigenous communities in Southern Oregon and Northern California.

The Fire Practitioners
is a documentary film produced by FUSEE (https://fusee.org/) highlighting ecological fire stewardship and the people and organizations working to build healthier relationships with fire and the land.

Fire Tenders is a film produced by PBS "..Yurok people have been putting fire on the land since time immemorial...but this practice has been disrupted by California settlers. Catastrophic fires in the West, however, have policymakers rethinking their commitment to fire suppression. Fire Tender shares the work of Margo Robbins, a Yurok knowledge keeper, seeking to return practices to Yurok territory and restore the land and its people."

Please plan to arrive at the Quilcene Community Center by 6:45 to get settled, the screening will begin at 7 PM. The approximate run time of both films is 45 minutes. There will be space set aside for discussion after the screenings!

We'll have popcorn and hot drinks, feel free to bring other snacks to share.

Accessibility
