Join us for our first ever Community Craft event in Quilcene!

We will gather to meet neighbors, work on craft projects together, and chat about this new Folk School! There will also be opportunity to learn techniques and skills for whittling green wood from both local and visiting seasoned woodworkers for the first part of the day.

This is a community skillshare event, our first ever as a Folk School in Quilcene! It’s also a fundraiser for this new project, so we are asking for a  at the door for the classroom part of the day (10-2 PM). Drop ins are welcome for the open carve portion of the day (2-4 PM), and we welcome donations then as well.

Join us for learning, connection, and new skills!

Kiko Denzer

INSTRUCTOR

From Philomath, Oregon, just below the shoulders of tcha Timanwi (now Mary's Peak), where the Kalapuya went to escape the glacial floods that made the valley what it is today!

“When I was ten, I started helping my mom with some of her art jobs, working with kids to make murals and demonstrating crafts. When she wrote a book called Making Things, I put together the index. She used to quote Aristotle: “what we learn to do, we learn by doing.” That’s pretty much how my life has gone, how I teach, and what folk schools are all about. I love helping people get started, but hands, eyes, heart, and materials do the rest. I’ve been building ovens and teaching natural building and green woodworking for a long time now! I also make and sell wooden wares for home and garden.”

Land tending, restoration, and systems design

A class with Hazel Ward - elder, teacher, educator and author of the book “Social Forestry”

Sunday July 20th, 10-4 PM
Quilcene, WA
$50-100 sliding scale

Join us for a lively conversation about restoring land that has been impacted by logging. We will tour an ongoing community restoration project and discuss growing permaculture systems and strategies for supporting the humans and other creatures that share the space.

The majority of class fees goes directly to Hazel, with whatever is left is considered part of a fundraiser for Folk School start up costs- we are a burgeoning project and appreciate your help! Please contribute what works for your financial status and ability.

Accessibility

There will be a seated lecture style section of the class, as well as a walk around the site. The walking section will be up and down variable terrain, some steep and sometimes slippery sections. There is no indoor bathroom access, though there are various access points to simple composting toilets with variable accessibility (up hills, no hand holds, etc).

Please let us know of any accessibility needs in advance and we will try our best to accommodate and make it possible for you to participate.
